Tips to take Care of Your Eyes

It has always been said that vision is a gift of God that we all should be grateful for and should never take it for granted.
With the increasing number of smart devices, gaming devices, video streaming devices, and television channels, etc., such gadgets have become inseparable from our day-to-day lives. And, one that ranks very high in terms of usage is the mobile phone.
I observe very small children, even babies, being obsessed with the mobile devices. I see them everywhere; in transport vehicles, homes, public places, and even parks. I see them sitting and using mobile phones for long periods at a stretch. This puts additional strain on their eyes.
Also, many do the blunder of riding two-wheelers without using windshields and helmets. They are prone to get affected with dry eyes and eye allergies.
The other major villain in the squad is a lack of nutritious food. With flourishing food industry, people are focussing more on taste and forgetting the real purpose of food, that is, to obtain nutrition and not just pleasure. That is why it has become common for every other person to suffer from nutritional deficiencies.
So, in that case, the question remains - what should we do to minimize the bad effects our lifestyle has on our eyesight.
Following are the general tips which do not require much time and effort and can be easily incorporated into our daily lives.
  • Whenever using electronic gadgets that strain the eyes, make it a habit to take short intervals in between, in which you focus on distant objects. Also, wash your eyes with water.
  • Blink often to ensure proper lubrication of the eyes.
  • Do regular pranayama and yogasana to improve circulation and oxygenation.
  • Take a multivitamin and multimineral tablet, especially rich in vitamin A and C.
  • Wear a helmet while riding two-wheelers. This prevents the evaporation of the tear fluids and dryness of eyes.
  • In case of any symptoms like redness, itching, pain, changes in vision, etc., instead of self-medicating, consult an eye specialist right away. Get a proper check up done as it is good to get it treated at the earliest.
  • In case of any disease or symptoms, prefer homeopathic treatment. It has shown marvelous results in treating certain diseases like cataract, glaucoma, myopia, etc.
  • Limit the use of contact lenses which have the tendency to produce dryness, allergic reactions, or even corneal ulcerations.
  • Wear prescribed glasses correctly and consistently.
  • Take timely treatment of systemic diseases like diabetes and hypertension as they can affect the eyes if it stays uncontrolled.
  • Getting a regular eye checkup done is a good idea to avoid any surprises.
These are some basic steps to avoid disasters and also enjoy life with one thing less to worry about.
